Professor Noctowl's Raid Research: Groudon

A Scholarly Analysis from the Pokebattler Pokémon Research Institute

Raid Introduction

Hello students! My name is Professor Noctowl, and today, I wish to draw attention to Groudon. Groudon is an elite Ground type pokemon, being a star in both PvP and PvE. Grab your notebooks, class is in session. For those who wish to do their research independently, our raw data can be found here. And for those who wish for a simple visual guide, go ahead and take a look at the below visual guide by CaptGoldfish.

Raid Syllabus

Course Schedule

This raid will be taking place between April 15th and April 21st. This raid is preceded by Mega Aerodactyl and Kyogre, coincides with Mega Alakazam, and will be followed by Mega Sharpedo and Tapu Koko.

Course Information

  • Catch CP: 2260 - 2351
  • Boosted (Sunny/Clear): 2825 - 2939
  • Minimum Required Trainers (Lvl 40, best friends, optimal weather): 2
  • Recommended: 5+ with Lvl 20 counters

Type Effectiveness & Moveset List

Being a pure Ground type, Groudon is weak to Grass, Ice and Water. Though, be careful, as with each of those types, Groudon can know a charge move that will be super effective against that Pokémon.

Effectiveness Types
Double Resist (0.4x) Electric Electric
Resist (0.6x) Poison Poison Rock Rock
Neutral Normal Normal Fighting Fighting Flying Flying Ground Ground Bug Bug Ghost Ghost Steel Steel Fire Fire Psychic Psychic Dragon Dragon Dark Dark Fairy Fairy
Super Effective (1.6x) Water Water Grass Grass Ice Ice
Double Super Effective (2.6x)

Groudon’s moveset includes the following charge moves:

  • Ground Earthquake
  • Fire Fire Blast
  • Grass Solar Beam
  • Normal Return
  • Ground Precipice Blades
  • Fire Fire Punch

Raid Conclusion

Overall, Groudon is tough to counter. Most Pokémon will end up being weak to at least onf of Groudon’s charge moves. It’s the safest bet to bring in Regigigas from our Dean’s List, due to not being weak to or resisting many charged moves. Though, if you’re feeling lucky, Shaymin (Sky) double resists most dangerous moves, only taking weak damage from Fire Blast, and Fire Punch. Of course, if you wish to do more research on your box’s best Pokémon for the job, Pokebattler.com itself can be a great help! Remember, the best counter is the one you have powered up and ready to go. I grant extra credit to those who use their best friend bonus and the weather to their advantage. Class dismissed!
